Precision Health Institute slated to receive $10 million
COLUMBIA, Mo. — University of ŷbƬ leaders expressed appreciation today after ŷbƬ Gov. Mike Parson signed a budget bill committing $10 million to the NextGen Precision Health Institute, the top priority of the UM System.
“As the state’s public, comprehensive, research and land-grant university, it is our mission to serve every ŷbƬ citizen as part of our educational, outreach, research and economic development missions. No other public ŷbƬ university touches as many ŷbƬans as we do,” Choi said. “We appreciate the continued support of the NextGen Precision Health Institute. This important research and health care initiative for ŷbƬans will create research and translational medicine that will save lives in ŷbƬ and will grow economic development in key health care sectors. In a typical year, the University of ŷbƬ system has a $5.4 billion positive impact on the state’s economy.”
Choi also said the UM System will continue making hard choices due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Since March 2020, the University of ŷbƬ System and its four universities have navigated through more than $85 million in budget reductions.
“While we continue to make hard decisions to address the budget challenges, we remain committed to our mission of student success, research breakthroughs and service to ŷbƬans,” Choi said.
