The number of emails we receive often can be overwhelming. As the security teams in the Division of Information Technology continue work to ensure the university’s IT systems are secure, we need your help to clean up and protect the data we store.
As a part of our larger Cybersecurity awareness campaign, on March 14 we are asking everyone to set aside 30 minutes to participate in the university’s Digital Cleanup Day. Everyone has a role to play in helping to keep both the university and your personal data safe - so let’s do it together!
During the day, we encourage you to take time to organize your inbox and go through other tools such as OneDrive, Teams and SharePoint to delete unnecessary files and properly store files that fall under sensitive, restricted or highly restricted information. These classifications outline what can be done with files that may include information such as:
- social security numbers
- protected health information
- credit card
- student banking information
Digital Cleanup can be as simple as removing the ROT – Redundant, Obsolete and Transitory files. These types of files are low hanging fruit that can be deleted to reduce risk.
