Description
One of the most robust features of human biology is that women live longer than men. Why is that? Is it because they resist diseases of later life better? Is it due to greater risk-taking behavior by men? Is it an artifact of modern industrial civilization? If not 鈥 and the answer to all of these questions is 鈥渘o鈥 鈥 then what is it due to? Do their longer lives mean that women are in general healthier than men? Again, the answer is 鈥渘o.鈥 Finally, as we develop therapies to treat aging as if it were a disease extending our health span, and there are now dozens of ways to do this successfully in experimental animals, is one sex likely to benefit more than the other? All of these questions and more will be answered during the course of this lecture.
